Spring is here - and a little sun in our backyard.

Rachel presents her 8th grade project to parents and guests at Three Cedars School.

Her project was pastery making, especially cakes - this wedding cake was her final project and was served that evening.

Real flower decorations... very tasty cake!

Our native trillium are very healthy this year.

FEBRUARY 2011

Jean in our local woods.

We have a break in the weather, Jean picking up apple tree clippings.

Tom doing major trimming on the other 80+ year old gravenstein apple tree.

A filburt or hazelnut flower... about 1/16" in size.  We have two old trees in our back yard.

Baby Catherine. Her parents and grandparents came for dinner.

Nora, sister of Catherine. Her grandparents were on our Italy tour and were visiting Kirkland from Minnesota.

Ice in the atmosphere - this kind of rainbow is called a "sun dog".

Jean in the woods, this time in snow.

Same bridge as in the first February photo above.

JANUARY 2011

Jean on one of our early morning walks in the neighborhood woods.

Old burnt cedar leaning on a maple.

Winter drive to Eastern Washington over Snoqualmie Pass (3022 ft  - 921 m).

Further snowfall by mid April made for a total snowfall of at least 460 inches.

We attend a Rick Steves "Europe through the Back Door" reunion with our friends and Italy guide Robin (on right) in Edmonds, about 40 minutes from Kirkland.
